Culture Media

Culture Media, or growth media as it is known, are solid and liquid substances that offer support in the growth of cells or microorganisms, small plants and others. Usage of solid media allows identification of bacterias, their separation, and isolation as pure culture. Liquid medias are preferred for profuse growth but are not ideal for separation of mixed organisms. These are widely preferred for longer shelf life and effective formulation. Culture Media can be segregated into various types based on their chemical composition and consistency such as solid and liquid media (based on consistency) and laboratory & synthetic media (based on chemical composition).

Features of Culture Media:

  • It is ideal for studying soluble products of bacteria.
  • Known for accurate composition, these are also cost effective.
  • Ideal for storing bacteria for a longer time period.
  • Easily soluble, safe to use & store, precise pH value.
